Mass Moths: An interactive resource for moth enthusiasts using 20 years of collected data

The project: Create an interactive website showcasing the 3,000+ moth species documented in Massachusetts, using data meticulously collected over 20 years and kept in an Excel spreadsheet. 

This was a dream project for me. When Steven Whitebread of the Mass Moths project first showed me his extensive Excel spreadsheet, I jumped at the opportunity to turn that wealth of data into a browsable website. I created a custom post type and custom taxonomies in WordPress for the species pages, and added custom fields corresponding to the spreadsheet columns using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin. I then created custom theme templates to display the content.

When it came time to import the 3,000+ row spreadsheet, I used the WP All Import plugin, which worked like a charm. Once everything was set up, I trained the Mass Moths team in using the data import system so they could continue working primarily with their spreadsheet and import the data to the website at regular intervals.
